I told you I would tell you how it all came to be

Tuesday, August 23 today is day one of my new adventure. I am sitting in the Vancouver airport waiting on my flight to Auckland and thinking OMG what a crazy thing I am doing, and then an announcement to board and there is a call for the captain... Captain Kirk!  How awesome is that? Yup, feeling pretty safe being flown to New Zealand by Captain Kirk and know I can sleep safely if there is a Klingon invasion.

Anyway, now that I am at ease, I can tell you how this all came to be.

It all began this time last year...I decided that I wanted to move to Calgary. I reached out to some key network contacts to get connected. I landed a contract with The City of Calgary for a special project. It was perfect, allowing me to remain a consultant but with a steady gig for a year. So from November through to June 2013, I was commuting back and forth to my house in Edmonton and my rental digs in Calgary. Not the best of situations but I worked with what I had.

Then... I put my house on the market to make the permanent move to Calgary and it sold in the
spring 2013.

In the interim I had been house hunting like mad since last summer. And I a m sure my realtor thought I would never decide. Uber-patient man!! And all his hard work paid off as  he found my DREAM CONDO.

It was amazing!! Everything I could have ever imagine in a new home. I fell in love, it was perfect
for my new life and I was thrilled to see the path my life was going... New job as a consultant for
The City, posh new condo, plans to purchase another posh car to go with my lifestyle... All was so
perfect.

(Sinister music plays now)

In June, Calgary is hit with its unprecedented flood!! It was truly the most incredible, surreal,
bizarre, unnerving... I am sure you all saw the news and let me tell you it was scary too. My dream condo was majorly impacted. Anyway many weeks later and some very careful considerations I pulled out of my condo purchase and with much difficulty let go of my dream lifestyle and coming to the realization that I was now house hunting again. ARGH!!! And at a time when the market was crazy with so many people in the same situation or worse. So, accepting my situation, I put it aside for now and like others my attention was on my work and the changed circumstances....

Sinister music plays again...

Monday morning I find out that my project had been put on hold indefinitely as The City had to
re-prioritizing everything after the flood - everything was being re-evaluated and there was no
answer as to what the future looked like. That equated to my job as a consultant was also put on
hold until further notice, I had two weeks!

YOU GOTTA BE SHITTING ME.

Nope this was my life. I drove to Edmonton to make my final move out of my house, but now I
wasn't moving into my dream condo but a 10x15 storage locker box. Ok, so I had a big cry,
hmmm no massive cry!

Then my big sister called (they seem to always know when to call), and between crying hiccups, we decided this was an AWESOME turn of events that actually were all in my favour. The universe had handed me an exciting opportunity.

She said 5 simple little words... Why don't you come here?

My house was sold, my condo never bought, no job, no ties, stuff safe,... WOW, this really is an
incredible situation to take advantage of. BUT I am SO afraid to make any decisions as I had been plotting my life and apparently the universe didn't agree and changed it all up. I felt I was incapable of making any decision beyond what I wanted to wear or eat, and even that was a challenge.. So I struggled along just over a week, mulling over in my head what would I do.

Sunday evening, July 21, I decided.  I called the airlines and booked the next flight to New Zealand.  I figured the universe would certainly let me know if I made the wrong decision.  I left for new frontiers two days later and landed in New Zealand on Wednesday, July 24.

Today is September 1 and that feels like years ago not a week.
